This advocacy handbook is for parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, foster parents, family friends, and other guardians who have a young person caught up in the juvenile court system and locked up in a juvenile facility.
This handbook only covers information concerning children between 10 and 21 years of age who become involved in the delinquency system. It focuses only on children in the juvenile court system and juvenile facilities who were locked up before they turned 17.
The system is confusing and few juvenile professionals take the time to really explain what’s happening with a child, what their rights are and how families can be involved. The hope is that the information and suggestions in this handbook will help you to better understand the juvenile justice system so that you can be a strong voice and advocate for your children.
You can download a copy of the Family Advocacy Handbook, "Making Your Voice Heard".
The document is also available in its original booklet format which needs to be printed in order to be read properly.
